Am I eligible to enter for a genre award?

As a general rule, to enter a genre category, the entrant must have released at least 3 singles, an album or an EP between 1 July 2022 – 30 June 2023.

Solo artists must reside in Victoria – and it should be noted that the residency of their backing band is not considered. For groups, at least 50% of the act must have been living in Victoria for the last two years, or use Victoria as a home base.

The Experimental or Avant-Garde category requires slightly more nuance, where we also allow a publicly available recording of at least 10 minutes in length (standalone or cumulative). Full details of eligibility are included in the submission form.

How do I choose the best genre for my music?

We know that the landscape of genre is constantly evolving, and simply invite you to follow your gut. You can only submit to one genre. Our judges are music industry experts who are across movements in the Victorian scene and represent the full breadth of each genre. We support self identification.
